How to Choose the Right Pool Float

Buying a float is mostly common sense once you know what to look at. Run through these four questions and you’ll pick the right one the first time.

1. How will you use it?

Be honest about how you relax in the water. Sunbathing flat? Get a lounger. Hanging out with a drink? A tube. Pool parties and photos? A ride-on. Buying the wrong shape is the single most common float regret.

2. Check the material

Look for thicker, heavy-duty PVC and welded seams. Thin, glued floats are cheaper up front but leak sooner. A slightly heavier float almost always lasts longer.

3. Match the size to your pool

Measure your pool before buying anything giant. A float should leave room to actually swim around it. For kids, smaller and easier-to-flip beats biggest-possible.

4. Plan for care

Rinse off chlorine and sunscreen, dry before storing, and keep floats out of constant direct sun. Five minutes of care doubles the life of most inflatables.
